Bangla–English Literature Department

English is an international language, not confined to any one nation or country — it has become the language of the entire world's people. The perennial enemies of Islam are using English to spread their culture into every corner of the world. Today, across the globe, Jewish and Christian interests are running countless schemes against Islam in English through Facebook, the internet, print media, and electronic media, working to influence and mislead entire populations. There is no substitute for mastering English in order to directly understand and give a decisive answer to all of these schemes. And conveying the living message of the Qur'an and Hadith is as easy through the mother tongue, Bangla, as it is difficult in any other language. To prepare a body of callers to the faith able to carry the true message of the Qur'an and Hadith worldwide — fluent in English alongside their mother tongue, Bangla — and to satisfy the thirst of language-loving seekers of knowledge, the "Higher Bangla-English Literature Department" was launched at Jamia Islamia Obaidia Nanupur in 2012 CE. Since then, this steadily growing department has each year produced a faith-filled cohort of writers, essayists, translators, authors, objective critics, lecturers, and capable creative writers among its graduate scholars.

Activities and features of this department:

1. The department is run by a highly skilled teaching staff holding advanced degrees in Bangla and English.

2. A year-long programme teaching Bangla and English textbooks from primary through secondary level.

3. The department's most notable feature: students live on campus and must study 16 of every 24 hours; using a scientific method, each day's lesson is taught fully within the class itself, so that a student entering at primary level is able, by year's end, to reach secondary-level competence.

4. Weekly Bangla-English seminars and building the habit of writing subject-based reports.

5. Regular instruction, specifically for Bangla literary practice, in correct public speaking, literature and writing, journalism and media, recitation, presentation, pronunciation, and grammar.

6. Daily reading and oral translation of English newspapers, to build proficiency in English.

7. Dedicated computer-skills training within the department.

8. Every student is required, by year's end, to write a subject-based research essay in English grounded in the Qur'an and Hadith.
