Jamia Islamia Obaidia Complex

In search of a sound environment for religious education, the senior elders of Chattogram established large Jamias away from the city, in the trouble-free setting of rural areas. As a result, most of the country's affluent and upper-class urban residents were deprived of religious knowledge and the company of scholars and spiritual guides. For lack of an institution combining modern and religious education, city children, educated instead at secular kindergarten schools, were growing up areligious, estranged from faith, and hostile to religious scholars. The Jamia's visionary and distinguished chief director, Allama Shah Jamir Uddin Sahib (rahimahullah), therefore laboured tirelessly to establish, on 24 kathas of land in the Chashma Pahar area near Nasirabad 2 No. Gate — in the heart of Chattogram, Bangladesh's commercial capital and port city — a multi-purpose religious educational institution named "Sultania Islamic Academy" (Jamia Islamia Obaidia Complex).

It currently runs a combined modern-and-religious Kindergarten and Hifz department from Nursery through Class Five. Plans are in hand for further programmes in the future, including a Higher Islamic Law Research Department, an Arabic Literature Department, and a Tajweed Department. Besides the academy's existing three-storey building, a large ten-storey building, costing ten crore taka, is currently under construction. A spacious Jami Masjid has been built on the second and third floors of this new building. On the first Saturday of every English-calendar month, after Asr, an Islahi Jor (spiritual gathering) and dua mahfil are held on the academy grounds, addressed by Allama Shah Salah Uddin Pir Sahib Nanupuri (may Allah preserve him), the worthy son and successor of Khatib-e-Islam Allama Shah Jamir Uddin (rahimahullah).
